Abstract

Dina Yafasova is, as she defines herself, a citizen of the world and a writer in exile. Born in Uzbekistan when it was still a Soviet Republic, she studied journalism at the University of Tashkent and graduated in 1993. She was a longtime correspondent on Central Asia for many international media outlets. His investigative reporting (one of them, on state censorship, was part of an official representation to the US Congress in 2001) depicted daily life in a post-Soviet dictatorship. Because of this, Dina was forced to flee in 2001 after being subjected to torture and death threats. She currently resides in Copenhagen with her family.
