Literatura de viagem e tradução nas relações culturais entre Brasil e Estados Unidos: do século XIX à Guerra Fria

Abstract

This paper analyzes the performance of travel literature and literary translation ‒ here seen as similar activities of cultural representation ‒ in the cultural exchange between Brazil and the U.S. since the beginning of their mutual relations in the nineteenth century until the moment of closest approach in the context of the Cold War that developed in the second half of the twentieth century. We propose to point out how the two activities mentioned were used in efforts of rapprochement between the two countries in the perspective of U.S. intentions to extend their relations with the rest of America and ensure their cultural and political supremacy in the continent.
