Este capítulo discute a questão da temporalidade do ponto de vista fenomenológico, no qual a experiência do tempo vivido é considerada uma característica central de várias manifestações de doenças mentais. A nosologia categórica moderna e amplamente difundida na psiquiatria tende a segmentar uma pessoa em diferentes critérios comportamentais, enquanto carece de uma compreensão holística do indivíduo. A psicopatologia dimensional oferece uma visão menos anatômica do paciente; no entanto, uma abordagem fenomenológica, integrada de forma benéfica, poderia alcançar uma compreensão mais profunda dos aspectos estruturais de vários transtornos mentais e maximizar a eficácia da intervenção terapêutica.
