Revisiting emotions and impressions from a research field

The objective of this article is to share memories, experiences and feelings and, inspired by Whyte and Lícia Valadares's work, offer reflections on fieldwork experience and ethnographic research and its challenges, uncertainties and misunderstandings, which almost always turn into valuable lessons or even reflections on the researched universe. The article seeks to review aspects of the author's doctoral thesis, initially highlighting the shift from a social problem (the lack of organs) to one pertinent to the anthropological research field (what notion of person is at risk in favoring or complicating the decision regarding organ donations). It then aims to demonstrate how fieldwork occurred at different stages of the research. Finally, the article discusses the notion of person as a guiding category in the researched universe, issues of research ethics and informed consent.
