Identity question in agrarian reform rural settlements territories: the Reunidas Settlement case

After a few decades since the first agrarian reform settlements were established it became necessary to think about the social reproduction process within the territory. Considering that, the objective of this article is to comprehend the social reproduction process inside the rural settlements through the analysis of the second-generation actors’ subjective motivations. Therefore it has been developed a case study in Reunidas settlement, the biggest in the state of São Paulo. The methodology used in the research was the oral history that consists in actors telling about their life stories and their projects. This article is structured in four sections: The first one brings the methodological elements. The second one brings a brief biography of the interviewees and in the third section are analyzed the actors’ speak and it is possible to realize their motivations to stay in the settlement. Through these elements the four sections demonstrates that the decision of staying in the settlement creates cultural and social transformations to the territory because the identities of these actors are re-elaborated. Thus, the final considerations point to the settlement as a territory with various experiences which are permeated by specifics culture and sociability that make possible the life projects achievement.Downloads
