The impact of the covid-19 pandemic in childhood and adolescence: a narrative review

Abstract

The coronavirus pandemic has led to the resignification of many actions and adaptation to different ways of working, studying, carrying out daily habits and socializing. The aim of this narrative review was to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the lives of children and adolescents. The PICO strategy was used to define the guiding question, followed by searches in different national and international databases. 18 studies were selected within the proposed central theme, which will be presented and discussed through thematic units referring to the implications of COVID-19 on lifestyle, the teaching and learning process and social interactions. The changes that the pandemic scenario has caused in the daily lives of these two dimensions of life have meant that they have had to adapt and experience new routines. This kind of unexpected change can influence the biopsychosocial development of this population.
