Prevalence of sexual dysfunction in elderly women participating in social groups in the city of Natal/RN

Introduction: Changes in the sexual response cycle can characterize a dysfunction, the elderly woman tends to spend considerable time in the climacteric period when organic changes occur in the woman and in her sexual response. Purpose: To verify the prevalence of sexual dysfunction (SD) in elderly women living in the city of Natal / RN. Methodology: Cross-sectional study, with a sample of 34 elderly women with active sexual life participating in social groups. A structured questionnaire and Function Sexual Female Index (FSFI) were used. Statistical analysis was performed through descriptive analysis and bivariate analysis, using Pearson’s chi-square test and Fisher’s exact test. Results: There was a prevalence of SD of 79.4%. The analysis of the variables did not show a statistically significant association. Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of SD in the elderly, which highlights the need to implement new practices of action aimed at the prevention and treatment of SD in this age group.Downloads
