Objective: The objective of this study is to describe the prevalence of children in the healthy zone and risk for physical activity and perceived family support according to sex and to identify the relationships between daily physical activity and perceived family support. Method: This is an exploratory case study, with a voluntary sample of 49 children enrolled in the 5th year of elementary school. Physical activity was assessed through pedometry and the perceived family support through a questionnaire. Descriptive and association analyzes were used. Descriptive and association analyzes were used. The difference between the sexes was tested with the Pearson chi-square test. Results: In the variables of perceived family support, no differences between the sexes were identified. In the rough analysis only the variable “your parents take you to practice physical activity” has been associated with the physical activity of the children. In the final model of adjusted analysis, the variables “consider the father active,” “mother encourages being active,” and “their parents lead you to practice physical activity” have been associated with the physical activity of children. Conclusion: The maternal and paternal figures seem to assume different roles in the support perceived by the children, so we suggest that the father and the mother (or equivalent figures) should be part of the intervention actions process in order to confirm these relationships in a more reliable way.Downloads
