Abstract

Introduction: Cerebral Palsy (CP) is the main neurological impairment of childhood and causes functional limitations and activities of daily living (ADL). Objective: To verify the functionality in ADL of children with CP of levels I to III of the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS), in a Physical Rehabilitation Unit at Rio Grande do Sul. Method: Descriptive study that characterized the activities of daily living by the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory (PEDI) of children with CP (GMFCS I to III). Results: Of 315 records, 8 patients were included, 7 males. The mean age was 5 ± 1.6 years. All children were classified as spastic, 7 diparetic and 1 hemiparetic. A GMFCS I (hemiparetic) child had better scores on mobility. The diparetic GMFCS II children had better scores on self-care. Diparetic GMFCS III children had lower scores on self-care and mobility. In the social function, all children had typical normative and continuous scores. Conclusion: The better the motor level, the greater the scores of functional abilities. The GMFCS I and II presented similar scores, with greater difficulties in mobility, different from level III, evidenced also for self-care
