Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished and is not being evaluated for publication elsewhere, otherwise shall be justified in "Comments to the Editor."
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or RTF format (provided they do not exceed 2MB)
  • URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is in space 1.5, uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); figures and tables are placed within the text, not at the end of the document as attachments.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, in About the Journal.
  • The identification of authorship of the work was removed from the file and the Properties option in Word, thus ensuring the confidentiality of the revised criteria, if subjected to peer review (eg articles), according to instructions available in Ensuring Blind Peer Assessment .
  • The figures will also be sent as a supplementary document.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Articles for publication should be sent exclusively to Health Magazine the Federal University of Santa Maria, not simultaneous submission to another journal is permitted, either in full or in part, except abstracts or preliminary reports published in proceedings of scientific meetings. The primary language of Health Magazine (Santa Maria) is the English (U.S.), for this reason, manuscripts should be submitted in Portuguese. The secondary language of Health Magazine (Santa Maria) is English (En), therefore, accept the submission of manuscripts in English. In The Magazine articles written by experts from other areas may be published, provided the topic is of interest to the area of HealthSubmitting articles is online at:

The Health Journal does not charge for article submission.

The full name of each author , institution, country, email should be informed JUST the metadata.

The routing of the manuscript, attachments and filling all the data , are the sole responsibility of the author submitting the manuscript.

ATTENTION

  • Manuscripts resulting from studies involving human subjects must indicate the procedures adopted to meet the constant of Resolution 196/ 96 of the National Health Council and indicate the number of protocol approval of the research project and the date of approval of the Ethics Committee in Research (CEP). For items from other countries the procedures adopted are those listed in the Declaration of Helsinki (1975 , revised in 1983).   • Conflicts of interest can arise when authors, reviewers and editors have interests that are not fully apparent, but which may influence their judgments about what is published. A conflict of interest may be personal, commercial, political, academic or financial. When authors submit a manuscript, whether an article or letter, they are responsible for recognizing and revealing conflicts that might influence their work.
  • The Board ensures the anonymity of the authors in the peer review process as well as the confidentiality and anonymity of evaluators regarding participation, which gives them freedom to trial.
  • Usually the statement of the policies of funding received if the research involves clinical trials.

Judgment process manuscripts
Submitted articles will first be reviewed by the Editorial Board regarding the adequacy to the editorial line and norms of the journal, and can even make suggestions to the authors for amendments it deems necessary. In this case, the article will be reassessed. The analysis of this decision shall be communicated to the authors.

Subsequently, the article review is conducted by peer-view, or members of the Editorial Ad-Hoc Council, invited by the Editorial Board. Opinions are appreciated by the Editorial Board to deliver its final opinion, or in the case of divergence between the opinions, requests a third opinion.

After the return of the manuscripts, the two consultants, staff of the Journal opinions and analyzes made ​​on the basis of "conclusive" continues with other referrals.

For publication, in addition to meeting the standards will be considered updating, originality and relevance of the topic, scientific consistency and respect to ethical standards. The authors identify the need for an erratum should send it to the Journal within 30 days after publication of the article, and at the discretion of the Journal's decision about its relevance and possible dissemination.

Types of papers accepted for publication and criteria for selection

Original manuscripts: to disseminate results of scientific research, unique, unprecedented and complete. The contents of the manuscript should be submitted as follows: Introduction should be brief, to present the research question, justification, literature (relevant and pertinent) and consistent with the objectives of the proposed study.

METHODOLOGY: Indicate the methods used, the population studied, the data source and selection criteria, which must be described objectively and comprehensively. Enter the protocol number and date of approval of the research project on Research Ethics Committee. It should also be noted that the research was conducted in accordance with ethical standards.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The results should follow a logical sequence. When presenting tables and illustrations, the text should complement and not repeat what is described in these. The discussion, which can be written along with the results must contain comparison of results with the literature and the authors' interpretation.

OR FINAL CONCLUSION: The findings and final remarks should highlight the most important findings and comment on the limitations and implications for further research.Should not contain more than 20 pages in its totality. Review articles: includes critical, systematic review of the literature on specific topics. Should include a section describing the methods used for locating, selecting, extracting, and synthesizing data and findings. Should not contain more than 20 pages in its totality. The Health Magazine (Santa Maria) is currently publishing in five (5) review articles in each issue. If this number is exceeded, the remaining articles will be published in upcoming issues.

Preview Note: original or notes of research studies containing unpublished data relevant to the coverage area of ​​the journal. The presentation must follow the same standards of original articles. Space for the synthesis of Thesis on the final stage of preparation. It should contain all stages of the study. Should not contain more than 3 pages in total Article.

Editorial: the responsibility of the Editorial Board, which may invite authorities to write it. Limit 2 pages.

Letters to the editor: mail addressed to the editor about the manuscript published in the Journal in the last year or reporting of research or significant findings in the area of ​​Health or related fields and may be sent containing comments and thoughts about this published material. Will be published at the discretion of the Editorial Board. Should not exceed 1 page in total.

PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPT

Papers must be written according to the Vancouver Style, standard developed by the ICMJE (http://www.icmje.org). Should be sent in Word for Windows, Arial 12, 1.5 spacing, with all pages numbered, configured on A4 paper with four margins of 2.5 cm.

HOW TO EDITORS: Manuscripts must be written in an objective manner, maintaining proper language to study as well as emphasizing the consistent scientific terminology. It is recommended that (s) of author (s) seek (m) professional linguistic advice (reviewers and / or certified translators in Portuguese, English and Spanish) before submitting (for) the manuscript that may contain errors and / or inadequacies morphological, syntactic, language or style. They should also avoid using the first person singular "my study ...", or the first person plural "we realized ...", since scientific discourse should be impersonal, non-judgmental. The titles of the textual sections should be gradually highlighted, unnumbered. The article title and summary with the first letter capitalized and the sentence in bold, primary section with the first letter capitalized and the sentence in bold, and secondary section in lowercase and underlined. Ex: Title, Abstract, Abstract, Results (primary section); Principles of nursing care (secondary section). Avoid using markers throughout the text.

Manuscripts should contain:

Title (unpublished) that identifies the contents, up to 15 words and present it in versions that include both languages ​​which adopts Magazine: Portuguese (Title), Spanish (title) and / or English (Title), requiring only one foreign languages​​.

If the manuscript come from the thesis, dissertation, or discipline of the graduate program should contain an asterisk (*) at the end of the title and the related information in a footnote on the first page. This indication should be informed only in the last version of the manuscript, avoiding the identification of authorship.

Summary: concise, up to 150 words, prepared in a single paragraph, accompanied by its translation into English (Abstract). Should be presented starting with the language of work. Should contain objective of the research, methodology, selection procedures of the study subjects, main results and conclusions. New and important aspects of the study should be highlighted.

Keywords: below the abstract include 2-5 descriptors according to the index of Descriptors in Health Sciences - DeCS (http://decs.bvs.br). Do not use the terms: Keywords. Use: Descriptors.

Quote: use numbering system to identify the works cited. Represent them in the text with the corresponding numbers without parentheses and superscript after point without mentioning the name of the authors. When dealing with sequential citation, separate the numbers by a hyphen when merged should be separated by commas. If transcription of words, sentences or paragraph with the author's words (direct quote), quotation marks must be used following the text, up to three lines (no italics) and corresponding reference as example: 13:4 (author and page); with more than three lines, use indentation of 4 cm, font size 12 and double-space between lines (without italics and without quotation marks), following the indication of the corresponding author and the page number. Deletions shall be indicated by the use of ellipsis in square brackets "[...]" the judicious use of this resource is recommended.

Testimonies: Transliteration in comments or answers, follow the same rules of the quote, but in italics, with the code in brackets represent each interviewee. The interventions of the authors to what was said by the participants of the study should be presented in brackets.

The titles of journals should be abbreviated said, according to the Index Medicus:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?db=journals. For abbreviation of titles of national and Latin American journals, consult the website:  http://portal.revistas.bvs.br eliminating points abbreviation, with the exception of the last point to separate the year.

References should be numbered and standardized according to the Vancouver Style. In the reference list, references should be numbered consecutively in the order they are first mentioned in the text. Reference is the author (s) (e) s by surname, only the first letter is capitalized, then the name (s) (s) abbreviated (s) and no point.

When the document has one to six authors, cite all authors separated by commas, when it has more than six authors, cite all the first six authors followed by the Latin phrase "et al." Regarding the abbreviation of months of journals - in English and German can be abbreviated month starting with a capital letter, in Portuguese, Spanish, French and Italian, in lowercase. Both will be no point as recommended by the Vancouver Style.

Entries may also contain:

  • Illustrations: may be included up to five (graphs and tables), black and white, according to the following specifications: photographs, drawings, graphs and tables are considered figures, which should be prepared to play by the layout editor in accordance format with Health Magazine UFSM inserted in the text, with the first letter capitalized described in the legend at the bottom and no italics, numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in the order they are cited in the text.   • Tables: should be prepared for direct reproduction by the layout editor, black and white, inserted in the text, with the first letter capitalized described in the legend at the top, numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in the order in which they appear in the text, content font 12 with the first letter capitalized, presented in maximum size of 14 x 21 cm (standard magazine) and length should not exceed 55 lines including title;
  • If you use data from another source, published or not, to obtain permission and acknowledge the source in full. Do not use internal horizontal or vertical lines. Employ in each column a short or abbreviated title. Place explanatory material in notes below the table, not in the title. Notes explain all nonstandard abbreviations used in each table;
  • Symbols, abbreviations and acronyms: Use only standard abbreviations. Except in the case of standard units of measure, all abbreviated terms should be written in full, followed by its abbreviation in parentheses the first time they appear in the text, even if it has already been entered in the summary;
  • Use italics for foreign words;
  • Should be avoided filing Appendices (developed by the authors) and attachments (including only, without intervention of the authors).
