Author Guidelines

The manuscript must be original, unpublished and have not been sent or published in another journal. The scientific and grammatical quality of writing is essential because the manuscript can be rejected if it is not suitable. Plagiarism is not allowed and when research involves humans and animals, the document approved by the Ethics Committee or equivalent institution must be attached.

The manuscripts submitted to the evaluation process should contribute to the advancement of science and research and fall within the scope of the areas of Ecology and Forestry Nutrition and related topics: forest species nutrition, nutrient and carbon cycling, climate change, management and ecology environmental impacts, forest fires, forest modeling, agroforestry systems, forest physiology and ecophysiology, forest soils, soil biology, biomass and forest residues, recovery and restoration of degraded areas, forest dynamics structure, production of forest seedlings, forest implantation, soil-plant-water, atmospheric deposition and forest hydrology.

The journal Ecologia e Nutrição Florestal (Ecology and Forest Nutrition) does not apply to any submission, publication or any other nature in its processes, being a scientific vehicle aimed at the Brazilian and international scientific community.

Authorship

The detailed description of the contribution of each author of the manuscript should be mentioned in a statement, to be attached in the system as "Supplementary Document" in Step 4 of the submission process. This statement should also indicate three possible reviewers, stating the name, institution, and e-mail of each one.

Languages

The manuscript can be written in the Portuguese, English and Spanish languages and from the year 2020 (volume 8), the manuscripts will be published only in the English language. Authors who submit their paper post October 1, 2019, after it being accepted, must present a declaration/certification proving that the translation was performed by companies or specialized professionals. The same should be sent to the e-mail enflo@ufsm.br.

Types of manuscripts

Manuscripts may be submitted in the form of scientific articles, technical notes and systematic literature review. Literature review articles will only be accepted upon invitation from the Editorial Board.

Structure and format of the manuscript

The manuscript must be edited in Microsoft Word DOC, DOCX with 1.5 spacing between lines, continuously numbered lines, Times New Roman font, size 12, tab 1.25 cm, A4 size, 2 cm left, right margins, bottom and top, portrait orientation and a maximum of 20 pages. Section headings should be written only with the initial capital letter, left-aligned, and bold.

The names of authors and affiliations should not be included in the body of the text, as this information is entered on the SEER platform at the moment of submission.

Scientific articles and technical notes should follow the presentation sequence: Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Material and methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments (optional) and Bibliographic References. The Material and Methods, Results, and Discussion items can be divided into sections. The article of systematic review of the literature should contain: Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Development, Final considerations, Acknowledgments (optional) and Bibliographic References.

Title: with a maximum of 150 characters, centered and bold, with initial capital letters only. The title should be clear, concise and objective and reliable to the main conclusions of the work. Verbs in the title should be avoid.

Abstract: presented in single paragraph, containing a maximum of 250 words. The abstract is a very important component of the manuscript and should express the contextualization and introductory referential, pointing out the motivations and justifications for the work, main results and generalized conclusion of the manuscript.

Keywords: Must be written with uppercase and left alignment, containing up to five terms, separated by semicolons (;). To use terms that could be amplified in the search for a manuscript after its publication, it is not usual to repeat the words already mentioned in the title.

Introduction: must present the importance of the study, originality of the research and motivation to carry out the work. The introduction should be written in a clear, cohesive and reliable way to the research objectives, pointing the innovations of the work to the advance of forestry science. At the end of the introduction, when applicable, enter the research hypothesis, followed by the objectives. The objective is a fundamental part of the work, which guides the results and conclusions, so the same should not express the action (methodology) but rather the idea of the research (assumptions, hypotheses).

Material and Methods: should contain, in a clear and detailed way, the main methods, materials, equations, among other tools used to carry out the study, described in such a way as to allow the complete reproduction of the work. The methodological description should follow a logical sequence and this assignment can be divided into subheadings.

Results: should contain the presentation of the main evidences resulted from the research, either in graphics mode, tables or text. Avoid writing redundancy in the form of text results already expressed in tables and graphs. The results should support the discussion and conclusion of their work, accepting or rejecting hypotheses, if any. Describe, with clarity and objectivity, what information can be extracted from the results (evidence) of the work.

Discussion: should be written in a way that supports and proves the results of the work, through arguments and demonstrations that validate the evidence. Therefore, it is advisable to use information from the literature that affirms or contests the results of the paper, avoiding mere comparisons between authors. Mention what are the practical applications of the work, implications to science and what knowledge gaps have been filled. It is recommended to discuss in the same order as the results were presented. It is not allowed to present tables and figures in this section of the manuscript. Special attention should be directed to the correct forms of quotations from other papers, avoiding plagiarism.

Conclusions: it should respond to the objectives (and hypotheses, if any) of the research, demonstrating the main evidences and applicability of the results, contributions to the scientific progress and the consequences of the study.

Acknowledgments (optional): mention funding agencies or other means of supporting research.

Bibliographical references: the references cited in the text should follow the ABNT 2002 - NBR 6023 and should be arranged in alphabetical order, by the last surname of the first author and in ascending chronological order.
