Abstract

The article examines the consolidation of Contemporary Indigenous Art in Brazil over the past decade, highlighting its collective, transgenerational, and politically engaged character. Through exhibitions, institutional projects, and international networks, it shows how Indigenous artists, curators, and collectives have expanded their presence in national and global circuits while also challenging institutional structures and dominant historical narratives. Originating from the AIC podcast developed within the project A North-South Dialogue in Afro-Indigenous Art (2022–2024), the text acknowledges both achievements and contradictions, while also warning against potential capture by the Brazilian and international art markets. It concludes that Contemporary Indigenous Art in Brazil has emerged as an expanding critical field in which aesthetics, politics, and cosmology intertwine to question universalism and the competitive logics of Western knowledge production.
