Notes on childhood and the teaching of visual arts: reflections on the writings of Mark Rothko

This article aims to investigate how the texts Scribble Book and Sketchbook by the artist teacher Mark Rothko (2006) can contribute to the teaching of Visual Arts in childhood, seeking meaningful aesthetic experiences. To this end, the research was structured in two methodological stages, a scope review focused at mapping the existing literature on the subject, followed by a theoretical analysis of Rothko (2006), establishing a dialogue with education based on Dewey (1979, 2010). The conclusions suggest the need for greater exploration of the artist’s writings within the academic field and characterize them as possible documentary sources for the development of expanded perspectives on the teaching of Visual Arts.
