EPIDEMIOLOGICAL PROFILE OF VICTIMS OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

Objective: to know the profile of the victims involved in automobile accidents treated at hospital emergency care midrange in the middle west of Santa Catarina. Methods: a cross-sectional survey, descriptive quantitative approach, performed in the period from February to May 2008. Results: it predominated visits victims of motorcycle accident, between 21-30 years old and male. Sunday was the day with the highest number of cases, the hours between 16 to 20 hours. The prevalence of limb trauma, and trauma frequently to abrasions, bruises and fractures. The victims were released shortly after the sessions in 66% of the population. Conclusion: young adult males and motorcycle drivers are the most common victims of automobile accidents. Transit authorities should be aware of the problem, we must take steps to prevent our young people continue dying poor posture in traffic.
