Assistance of the nursing team to the patient in postanesthetic recovery room

Aim: to describe the nursing care and the factors that influence the safe care to the patient in a postanesthetic recovery room. Method: it is an exploratory, descriptive study with qualitative approach, carried out with 14 nursing professionals working in an postanesthetic recovery room of a private hospital in Paraná. The data collection occurred in August of 2015, with the application of a semi-structured questionnaire. The reports have been submitted to thematic analysis. Results: from the analysis, two categories have emerged: nursing care to the patient in postanesthetic recovery; and the difficulties found and improvement factors for nursing care in a postanesthetic recovery room. Among the main nursing care tools, clinical and hemodynamic monitoring were highlighted. Communication, human resources and materials have been pointed out as limiting factors to safe care. Final considerations: the professionals perceived that routine care is needed in order to contribute to the patient’s safety and they identified factors for improvement and promotion of care
