A gênese da filosofia política e o significado do “retorno” para Leo Strauss

Neste artigo, proponho-me a responder duas questões centrais acerca do pensamento de Leo Strauss: em primeiro lugar, o que caracteriza a filosofia política em sua obra? Em segundo, qual o sentido atribuído por ele ao “retorno” aos Clássicos? A partir dessa abordagem, busco evidenciar os elementos da “ciência política antiga” que Strauss procura reativar, bem como o significado filosófico específico que confere à noção de retorno. A hipótese que sustento é que esse retorno, em Strauss, constitui uma retomada experimental de traços fundamentais do pensamento clássico, especialmente de seu caráter investigativo (zetético), o qual marcava a relação peculiar entre o filósofo, o cidadão comum e o estadista. Concluo, assim, que a proposta straussiana visa recuperar uma experiência de pensamento radical, ancorada na rearticulação de problemas permanentes.
