This article compares women’s participation in revolutionary and nationalist movements in the early twentieth century, focusing on the paramilitary organization Cumann na mBan in Ireland and the Soldaderas in Mexico. The main objective is to understand how gender and nationalism were articulated in experiences of resistance. Methodologically, the study adopts a Comparative History approach, establishing relationships between distinct contexts through the identification of similarities, contrasts, and connections. The research is based on a literature review and the analysis of primary sources, such as the founding documents of Cumann na mBan. The results indicate that, despite differing forms of participation, both groups had their contributions erased or reinterpreted by patriarchal narratives, without transforming gender hierarchies. Thus, the article contributes to the field of International Relations by expanding the debate on women’s participation in nationalist and anti-colonial processes.
