This article analyzes the role of Basque associations in the city of São Paulo as a strategy for preserving identity and facilitating transnational mediation in the context of the 19th- and 20th-century diaspora. The study begins with the observation that migrant communities, by organizing themselves into associations, build mechanisms for social cohesion, cultural resistance, and dialogue with their countries of origin. In the Basque case, the founding of the Eusko Alkartasuna Center (1958) and the Basque-Brazilian House Eusko-Brasildar Etxea (2009) consolidated social hubs that worked to preserve the Basque language, cultural practices, and collective memories amid the process of dispersion. The research combines a literature review, documentary analysis, and interviews with community members, demonstrating that such associations transcended a recreational function, becoming spaces of symbolic resistance against political repression in Spain and the cultural homogenization imposed by globalization. It is concluded that Basque associativism in São Paulo exemplifies the resilience of contemporary diasporas by projecting, within the transnational space, forms of belonging that reconcile tradition with adaptation to the new social context.
