Brazilian twin cities: contradictory spaces of integration

This article discusses the land border strip of Brazil and its twin cities, contextualizing the topic and presenting socioeconomic data and information on Brazilian twin cities. As specific objectives, it seeks to focus the analysis on the southern portion of Brazil, a region that concentrates almost half of the twin cities in the Brazilian territory. The work methodology involved descriptive and analytical bibliographic references, collection of information and qualitative and quantitative data from official secondary sources and Brazilian Ministerial Ordinances, as well as systematization and graphic representation. The results point to the need for greater integration of efforts between public authorities at the municipal, state, and federal levels in Brazil and also at the international level between Brazil and neighboring countries in order to mitigate the problems that are characteristic of the border and favor the economic development and integration of the twin cities.
