Abstract

The work presented is a study of fragmentation and territory management, which has the analysis area southwest of Rio Grande do Norte, but specifically the city of Portalegre-RN, which was divided, especially in the middle of last century, giving rise to several new cities. The discussions presented in this paper have the territory, defined and limited by space and power relations embedded as the main category of analysis. The search exacerbated by maintaining and expanding the power of local groups, along with the weakness in the legislation, encouraged to accelerate the process of fragmentation of the territory.

Josué Alencar Bezerra, Universidade do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte

Concluiu a Graduação (2002) e o Mestrado (2005) em Geografia pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. Foi professor substituto da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte e atualmente é professor efetivo do Departamento de Geografia/CAMEAM e Líder do Núcleo de Estudos em Geografia Agrária e Regional da Universidade do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte. Tem experiência na área de Geografia Humana, com ênfase em Geografia Urbana e Regional e Ensino de Geografia.

Geógrafo pela UERN e Especialista em Geografia do Semi-árido e Meio Ambiente pelo IFRN. Professor de Geografia do município de Viçosa-RN.
