Aging with art and health: an extension practice report

Abstract

This study aim to report on the experience of extension actions aimed at the elderly. This is an experience report of an extension project called: Aging with Art and Health, developed by a lecturer and nine students from the Nursing and Medicine courses at a Federal University in the Western Frontier region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The health actions include Cinema, Food and chronic diseases, Polypharmacy, Physical activity (stretching, exercises that work on coordination and flexibility), Art therapy, Physiotherapy, Bingo, Women’s and men’s health, Mental health, among others. It was found that the project stimulated the physical and mental health of the elderly and fostered autonomy, socialization and new learnings for active aging.

Jorge Luís Alves Brum, Santa Casa de Caridade de Uruguaiana

Nurse at Santa Casa de Caridade de Uruguaiana, graduated in Nursing from Universidade Federal do Pampa.

PhD in Science, Nurse, Federal University of Rio Grande

Cenir Gonçalves Tier, Universidade Federal do Pampa

She holds a bachelor's degree in Nursing from the Integrated Regional University - URI (2004), a master's degree in Nursing from the Graduate Program in Nursing at the Federal University of Rio Grande - FURG (2006) and a doctorate from the Graduate Program in Nursing at the Federal University of Rio Grande - FURG (2014). She is currently Associate Professor of Nursing at the Federal University of Pampa (UNIPAMPA). She has experience in Nursing, with an emphasis on the health of the elderly. She is an Ad Hoc Consultant for the Revista de Rede de Enfermagem do Nordeste - REV RENE, Revista de Enfermagem da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria REUFSM, Revista Eletrônica Acervo Saúde/ Electronic Journal Collection Health and REEUSP and Revista Eletrônica Acervo Saúde. Leader of the Study and Research Group on Human Ageing on the Border - GEPESH-FRON.

Artur Barros Lima Caiçara, Universidade Federal do Pampa

Artur Caiçara is a medical student at the Federal University of Pampa (UNIPAMPA), currently in his eighth semester. He holds a technical degree in Computer Networks from the José Nivaldo Pereira Ramos State Technical School (2019). He has participated in symposia in various areas of medical knowledge. He was President of the Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery League (2022-2023), a member of the Academic League of Medicine and Art (LAMA), and the Uruguaianense Academic League of Exercise and Sports Health (LASEEG). He was the Student Assistance Coordinator for the Nise da Silveira Academic Directorate (2022). He is a member of the Study and Research Group on Human Aging on the Border (GEPESH-FRON). He is a teaching assistant in the Pathology discipline. He also works with the Pediatric Surgery service at the Santa Casa de Caridade Hospital in Uruguaiana.

Sônia Marizete Antunes Severo, Prefeitura Municipal de Uruguaiana

Nurse graduated from the Federal University of Pampa UNIPAMPA in (2010). She has two specializations. Public Health with Emphasis on Family Health in 2012. And Health of the Elderly and Gerontology in 2017. She worked at the Municipality of Alegrete, working in the Basic Care of the Municipality, from 2012 to 2015. Since 2015 she has worked as a Nurse for the Municipality of Uruguaiana working in the Family Health Strategy.

Natalia Dorneles Messa, Universidade Federal do Pampa

Student in the 6th semester of the Bachelor of Nursing course at the Universidade Federal do Pampa, UNIPAMPA, Campus Uruguaiana-RS. She is a member of the Study and Research Group on Human Ageing on the Border (GEPESH-FRON), and was a volunteer and scholarship holder for the extension project Ageing with Art and Health. She is also a member of the teaching, research and extension group Tuberculosis, Respiratory Assessment, Epidemiology and Management (TUAREG). She is also a member of the Laboratory for Research and Innovation in the Health of Specific Populations (LIISPE), where she is a fellow of the ASA Program extension project (Agility, Simplicity and Alterity in health care in the prison system).
