Abstract

This article presents the RobôFun project with its double goal: i) to allow students of the Computer Engineering PET group to carry out research, teaching, and extension activities under the umbrella of one project, and ii) as a mean to attract new students to computer engineering, computer science, and alike courses as well as to reduce the freshmen evasion from these courses. The group has developed a robot able to be programmed using a visual language for people without previous knowledge on programming and robotics. The apprentice can command the real robot or simulate its behavior. The results are presented in the form of lessons learned observing aspects like student motivation, learning, and management of the activities for both the design of the robot and the teaching activities.
