Abstract


The current study assessed the environmental impacts caused byinstallation of an agro processing of castor bean in Pocinhos city, Paraibastate, taking into account its possible contribution to local socio-economic development and sustained. To identify the environmental impacts causedby the enterprise took place technical procedures, among them got data,through field visits, photographs description, interviews with producers,cooperative members and citizens, especially those living closer to theventure. Negative impacts observed: noise pollution, visual pollution, airpollution through the exhalation of gases from the beginning of the processof decomposition of tailings released in environment, soil pollution byimproper disposal of waste and generation of little direct employment inthe process of processing of castor bean; positive impacts identified:development of local economy, generation of indirect jobs in the city andsurrounding towns, ease the flow of production.
