Resumen

[Viruflos (Iridaceae), back in the light after more than 60 years in the darkness]
The genus Viruflos is established based on a new combination and status derived from Cypella subg. Viruflos Ravenna, and Viruflos crateranthus is proposed as a new combination for Cypella craterantha Ravenna. Viruflos crateranthus the unique species of the genus Viruflos occurs in northeastern Peru (La Libertad, Catamarca, and Lambayeque regions) from 400 m a.s.l., at altitudes of up to 3,000 m a.s.l., in environments of<Desierto Costero>, <Bosques Secos>, <Matorrales Desérticos> and <Meso-Andina>. The taxonomic position of the genus within the clade B of the tribe Tigridieae is discussed, and Viruflos crateranthus is described, illustrated, and typified. Additionally, information regarding its phenology, distribution, habitat, and conservation status is presented. A key to distinguish the genera of the tribe Tigridieae is proposed.
