This article analyzes science communication carried out by Brazilian federal public universities as a communication policy issue in a platformized media environment. The study adopts a qualitative approach and uses Futures Studies tools, especially Environmental Scanning, combining document analysis with semi-structured interviews conducted with five university communicators. The findings reveal a mismatch between the growing formalization of science communication in public policies and its limited integration into the structure of the national higher education and research system. The foresight exercise indicates that strengthening this field depends on protected funding, institutional formalization, and the incorporation of science communication into research project design.
