The objective of this article was to identify what has been developed in the last five years regarding animation and motion capture, as well as the gaps between such approaches. We highlight the growing concern with efficiency and cost reduction, evidenced by research that addresses the pace of production and proposals for solutions through new tools and optimized workflows. Furthermore, there is a growing social concern, with studies on accessibility and cultural preservation, including the translation of speeches into sign language and the preservation of Intangible Cultural Heritage through animated avatars. However, gaps are identified in current research, such as the lack of studies applied to Brazilian culture and accessibility for groups other than people with hearing difficulties. The absence of research on educational games and animations, awareness-raising or related to service provision stands out.
