Abstract

The article addresses the international perspective of Critical Public Relations, understanding it as promising to enhance theoretical renewal in the national field. After an extensive literature review, the text explores the origins of critical thinking and its proposal to reflect on the impacts of public relations practices on sociocultural dynamics and disputes over meaning and power. Then, it argues about two points of contribution from such a perspective: (a) the rupture of the theoretical isolation of the field, expanding the conceptual frameworks and the research subjects; (b) overcoming the social isolation of public relations, recognizing the ambiguities inherent to the activity.
