Abstract

This article analyzes 20th-century Brazilian dystopian literature, classifying it into three key periods: the late 1940s, the military dictatorship period, and the beginning of redemocratization era. Through critical analysis, it explores themes such as political repression, environmental degradation, social control, technocracy, and gender oppression. The works are notable for their formal innovation, employing narrative fragmentation, polyphony, metafiction, and linguistic experimentation. The study demonstrates that Brazilian dystopias not only engage with the Anglophone dystopian tradition but also reframe it, offering critical reflections on contemporary realities. Thus, Brazilian dystopian literature establishes itself as a space for resistance, social critique, and aesthetic renewal.
