Abstract

This work intends to investigate, within the narrative economy of the novel Duas iguais, by Cíntia Moscovich, the role played by references to two specific moments in which dictatorships inflicted on diverse populations not only the violation of the law, but the threat to the very survival of some segments of the population. They are the Holocaust, present in the memories that the protagonist, Clara, hears from the survivors, and the Brazilian military dictatorship, which she witnesses without, however, being very clear about what she is experiencing. In a first reading, these elements serve to characterize the protagonist as a member of the Jewish community and of a generation, the one that reached adolescence in the final years of the military dictatorship.
