Abstract

One of the most striking characteristics of modernity in Ibero-American literature is the emergence of the figure of the Indian and his culture in the pages of fiction. However, Europe remains haunting the pages of the Ibero-American authors most committed to indigenous causes, from Ciro Alegría to Darcy Ribeiro, from Augusto Roa Bastos to Miguel Ángel Asturias. Thus, from the methodological tool developed by the comparatist Daniel-Henri Pageaux under the name of “imagology”, it will be analyzed, in a corpus of Brazilian, Peruvian and Ecuadorian literary texts, the degree of ethnocentrism present in the imagination of authors who most marked, in these countries, the culture of the 20th century, reflection of self-representation images in the Ibero-American space.
