Children's remembrances in Porque Hoje é Sábado, by Maria José Silveira

Abstract

To recall childhood experiences based on historical contexts that have violence as a central element is to bring to light the possibility of (re) significations that were not previously understood due to age immaturity. In the meantime, the short story Porque Hoje é Sábado presents itself as a literary structure that allows reflections on the violence imposed by the so-called Brazilian dictatorial regime, bringing the childish gaze to the executioners’ acts. In this context, the analysis turns to understand the manifestations of the memories of the protagonist's childhood experiences, seeking to understand the subjectivities and affections that permeate these memories in times of exacerbated violence. Therefore, the theoretical view is based on the reflections of Assmann (2011), Candau (2019), Crettiez (2009), Saffioti (2004), Agambem (2004) and Nepomuceno (2015). As a result, there was boundless violence, regardless of whether the victim was a child or a pregnant woman. What mattered, in the narrative, was that the parents had subverted the dictatorial regime and so everyone paid the price with mistreatment, that is, everyone was violated. And such violence remained in the protagonist's memories in adulthood
