Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • Citations and references are formatted according to the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition, using the author–date system and unnumbered references.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, and is not currently under consideration for publication by another journal.
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word (.docx) or LaTeX (.tex) format, following the journal’s template and formatting standards.
  • URLs for the references have been provided whenever possible.
  • The text is formatted according to the provided template; figures and tables are inserted within the text, rather than placed at the end of the document as appendices.
  • The text follows the style standards and bibliographic requirements described in the Author Guidelines on the About the Journal page.

Author Guidelines

The manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Exact Sciences and Technological Applications — JESTA must be original, unpublished, and aligned with the journal’s focus and scope. Original articles and review articles are accepted in the areas of chemistry, physics, mathematics, and technological applications, especially in engineering, methods, and experiments.

Manuscripts may be submitted in Portuguese, English, or Spanish and must include the title, abstract, and keywords in the main language of the manuscript and in English. Depending on the nature of the work, the text should include an introduction, materials and methods or methodology, results and discussion, conclusions, acknowledgments, funding statement, conflicts of interest, and references.

To ensure double-anonymous peer review, the file submitted for evaluation must not contain names, affiliations, acknowledgments, or any other information that could identify the authors. This information must be provided exclusively in the submission metadata.

Authors must disclose any conflicts of interest, sources of funding, ethics committee approval when applicable, and the contribution of each author. The use of artificial intelligence tools must be declared when applicable, and such tools cannot be listed as authors.

Authors are responsible for linguistic accuracy, the accuracy of references, the authenticity of the data, and obtaining the necessary permissions for the use of images, tables, or other third-party materials.

Citations and references

JESTA adopts the American Psychological Association (APA), 7th edition guidelines for the presentation of in-text citations and the reference list.

Citations must follow the author-date system, and a numerical citation system is not used. Examples: (Silva, 2024) for one author; (Silva & Souza, 2024) for two authors; and (Silva et al., 2024) for three or more authors. For direct quotations, the page number or another form of location of the cited passage must also be provided, when applicable.

The References list must be presented at the end of the manuscript, without numbering and in alphabetical order by the surname of the first author, following APA 7th edition guidelines. In references with two or more authors, the symbol “&” must be used before the last author, in accordance with APA style. When available, the DOI must be presented in URL format: https://doi.org/...

All works cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and all references listed must have been cited in the manuscript. Formatting examples are provided in the official JESTA template corresponding to the language of the manuscript.

JESTA does not charge submission, review, processing, or publication fees. Approved articles are published in open access under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License — CC BY-NC 4.0.
