Trust and beliefs in the just world: an understanding of interpersonal relationships

Abstract

Interpersonal relationships are fundamental to life in society. Given the importance of the topic, the present research aimed to analyze the influence of Belief in a Just World (BJW) in trust in interpersonal relationships with one’s best friend and romantic partner. The sample consisted of 165 people who responded online four scales: the Personal Belief in a Just World Scale, the Global Belief in a Just World Scale, the Interpersonal Trust Scale for Best Friend and Interpersonal Trust Scale for Romantic Partner. A positive influence of personal BJW on the level of trust in both, the best friend and the romantic partner, was observed. It was concluded that personal BJW is a relevant variable for understanding interpersonal relationships.

Psicólogo formado pela Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBa) com mestrado e doutorado em Psicologia Social, do Trabalho e das Organizações pela Universidade de Brasília (PSTO- UnB). É Professor Adjunto da Universidade Estadual de Goiás (UEG), vinculado ao programa de Pós-Graduação em Gestão, Educação e Tecnologias. É também membro do Instituto Nacional em Neurociência Social e Afetiva (INCT-SANI).
