"More sustainable" fashion: processes and paths of two brands in the city of Vila Velha-ES

Abstract

This work analyses the intention and the productive process of two clothing brands from Vila Velha-ES. In order to link fashion to ecology, this essay question their practices and aims towards a “more sustainable fashion”. In order to conduct this case study the methodology was developed through an exploratory research, based on discursive interviews grounded on political ecology perspective, according to Leff and Gattari. Such construction should also involve social and subjective issues as well, including interdisciplinary knowledge. This research has discussed intergenerational concern acknowledging environmental degradation and its unevenly distributed consequences particularly affecting human and environmental cost. The outcomes from this study have brought to surface that the discourse coming from both brand founders, despite their good intentions, does not always articulates with their practices, which are still hostage to the current capitalistic system rules.
