The objective of this paper is to analyze democracy in Latin America through social dimension, from the data bank of IDD-LAT in two aspects: performance of countries and behavior of indicators that make up the scale. In this review, the social dimension of democracy is understood by four performance indicators: health, education, unemployment and poverty. The analysis was conducted from a descriptive study with data from the social dimension of IDD-LAT and revealed important considerations for democratic development: 1) as the need to promote equal conditions through employment, income and access to education and health; 2) countries offering its population a set of welfare policies are more developed democratically and 3) the social dimension has shown that improving indicators alone is not enough to democratic performance, when, of course, one thinks of democracy as a way of living in society from political, social, cultural and economic.Downloads
