Abstract

Platform cooperativism has been considered an alternative to platform economies controlled by big techs. These platforms have, a priori, more beneficial, and supportive socioeconomic impacts as they involve more democratic, equitable and participatory management models. However, existing literature evaluates these platforms as instances of a specific homogeneous phenomenon. This article proposes the existence of different types of cooperative digital platforms supported by the theory of partial organizations, using a typology organized into four quadrants. To structure this mapping, we consolidated the definitions and main elements of the concept of partial organizations, illustrating the proposal with exemplary cases. The study contributes to the field of organizational management, digital platforms, and cooperative organizations, opening new study perspectives and revealing the existence of a wide variety of cooperative digital platform models. The typology also encourages future empirical studies to verify the relevance of the proposed mapping.
