A Nutritional profile in Postoperative Complications in the Surgery Service of Universitary Hospital of Santa Maria

Abstract

The relationship between malnutrition and the increase in postoperative complications and mortality is well known. Studies have shown the importance of the nutritional aspect in surgical evolution, being responsible for high overall hospitalization costs. Therefore, the objective of this study was to demonstrate the nutritional profile and its relationship with postoperative complications of patients admitted to the Surgery Service of HUSM, diagnosed with acute abdomen, undergoing urgent surgical intervention. For this evaluation, serum Albumin levels, Hemoglobin (Hb) and Hematocrit (Ht) were performed, as well as anthropometric measurements such as weight, height and skinfolds. The main complications analyzed were surgical, including abdominal wall sutures dehiscence and gastrointestinal anastomosis,in addition to inflamatory and infectious diseases.
