Abstract

Objective: To characterize the trend, distribution and occurrence of breast cancer mortality in women of childbearing age from 15 to 49 years old in Brazil, from 2005 to 2019. Methods: Study of time series, using data from the Information System on Mortality, including all deaths recorded from malignant breast cancer in females aged between 15 and 49 years from 2005 to 2019 in Brazil. Results: Between 2005 and 2019, 50,131 deaths from breast cancer were recorded in women aged between 15 and 49 years. Mortality rates increased in all regions of the country, being higher in the Southeast and South. The temporal trend of mortality from breast cancer was increasing and statistically significant (p < 0.001) in all regions and in the country. The proportion of deaths of women of childbearing age in general and specific mortality from neoplasms followed the upward trend shown by the mortality rate in all regions. The mortality profile identified that most deaths occurred among women aged between 40 and 49 (69.5%), with schooling between 8 and 11 years of schooling (27.9%) of white race/color (52.9%). Conclusion: The study showed that breast cancer is an important public health problem in Brazil. The disease showed a significant increase in all regions of the country during the studied years, demonstrating the growing need to invest in effective prevention, diagnosis and treatment measures capable of mitigating these numbers.
