About the Journal
SCOPE OF THE JOURNAL
RELATIUM – Interamerican Journal of Public Relations Studies is an open-access journal with continuous publication and annual frequency, organized by researchers from the International Communication and its Interfaces with Culture and Power in Organizations Research Group (ComInter), linked to the Frederico Westphalen Campus of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM/FW), in collaboration with the Inter-American Center for Advanced Studies in Public Relations (CIESURP).
The journal’s mission is to promote the scientific dissemination of Latin American research on public relations theory and practice, welcoming scientific articles (empirical or review), interviews, experience reports (academic or professional), and book reviews.
RELATIUM aims to address contemporary challenges in the field, making recent scientific production accessible and encouraging the theoretical and practical advancement of public relations. The journal constitutes an open space for critical reflection, interdisciplinary dialogue, and the exchange of experiences among researchers, professionals, and students.
AIM AND COVERAGE
RELATIUM – Interamerican Journal of Public Relations Studies is dedicated to the scientific dissemination of studies on public relations and its multiple interfaces with communication in organizational, strategic, institutional, and business contexts. The journal seeks to foster theoretical, methodological, and applied development, with special attention to Latin American contexts and intercultural dynamics that shape the field.
Original manuscripts are accepted in the formats of scientific articles (empirical or theoretical), interviews, experience reports (academic or professional), and critical reviews that contribute to the advancement of epistemological, ontological, and axiological reflections in contemporary public relations. RELATIUM values interdisciplinary approaches, as well as perspectives that critically address professional practice in diverse contexts, including challenges related to reputation building, crisis management, engagement with strategic publics, social responsibility, and communication for sustainability.
The journal encourages contributions that broaden academic and professional dialogue, promoting the visibility of Latin American research and consolidating a critical space for exchange among researchers, faculty, professionals, and students.
PUBLICATION FREQUENCY
RELATIUM is published annually with continuous flow, ensuring immediate availability of approved papers. All content is published open access, promoting broad visibility and circulation of scientific production.
MISSION AND OBJECTIVES
Mission: To promote and disseminate high-quality academic production in public relations, with special attention to the contributions, specificities, and challenges of Latin American contexts, strengthening scientific debate and professional practice.
Objectives:
• Increase the visibility and circulation of scientific research that critically addresses public relations theory and practice, with an emphasis on Latin American contexts;
• Encourage studies exploring epistemological, ontological, methodological, and axiological dimensions of the field, promoting the renewal of theoretical approaches;
• Value research analyzing the strategic role of public relations in diverse organizational, institutional, and social contexts;
• Foster academic exchange among researchers, faculty, students, and professionals, strengthening collaboration networks and scientific dialogue in Latin America.
ARTICLE REVIEW PROCESS
The editorial process of RELATIUM follows these steps:
Phase 1 – Submission: Manuscripts must be submitted via the journal’s OJS system, following RELATIUM’s formatting guidelines.
Phase 2 – Initial Editorial Review: The editorial team checks manuscript compliance with the journal’s scope, originality, format, and editorial standards. Articles not meeting these criteria may be returned for adjustments before peer review.
Phase 3 – Peer Review (double-blind): Manuscripts approved in the previous phase are sent to at least two ad hoc reviewers, specialists in Organizational Communication, Public Relations, or related fields. In case of conflicting opinions, a third reviewer may be consulted.
Phase 4 – Editorial Decision and Final Adjustments: Based on the reviews, authors are informed about acceptance, rejection, or required adjustments, which must be completed within the stipulated timeframe for publication.
APCs (ARTICLE PROCESSING CHARGES) AND SUBMISSION FEES
RELATIUM does not charge any fees for submission, review, or publication, reaffirming its commitment to the democratization of scientific knowledge and equity in access to academic production.
