The scenario of brazilian university publishing houses

Abstract

The book, now largely in digital format, is still an important channel for the dissemination of research results, largely published by university presses. However, not all universities have a press and not all university's press use electronic publishing systems, such as the Open Monograph Press (OMP), among others, revealing little adherence to the technology. In this sense, the present work aims to verify the adhesion of university publishers to technologies through their website, mainly the use of OMP and other forms of presentation of their catalog, through a mixed qualitative-quantity study. Thus, it was found that only 17 of the 191 university's press analyzed use the OMP, even though most of them have books available for free, adhering to the open access movement. The scenario of university publishing houses is, to a large extent, to have sites linked to the university portal implemented with Content Management System (CMS), with a large presence of public institutions.
