Sustainability: evolution of concepts theorists and the problems of practical measurement

The paper investigates the evolution of sustainable development and sustainability concepts during the last two decades. The first part of paper seeks to describe the theory bases for sustainability definition, analysing the different schools veiws on the environmental problems. Then, the problems of sustainability indicators and measuring of desenvolvimento sustentável have been considered including the case of Brazil. We conclude by investigating the regional and local sustainability problems and some critical generalizations on the article subject.Downloads
