A curatorial experience with the Workinprocess_novonormal virtual exposition

Abstract

The spread of the virus that caused COVID-19 maked changes around the world, transforming relationships, such as personal and work, in artistic creation and exposure. This text discusses the online curatorial experience of the virtual exhibition WorkinProcess_NovoNormal, as a partial evaluation in the subject Modos de Fazer e Pensar: Poiéticas e Poéticas, which is part of the curriculum of the PhD in Visual Arts of the Graduate Program in Visual Arts of Federal University of Santa Maria (PPGART / UFSM). It aims to present how the exhibition curatorial process took place during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the continuity of the academic activities of the discipline remotely. The exhibition virtually brought together artistic production still in the process of establishing seven PhD research artists in the program, who explored artistic process during the social isolation. The curation, which was carried out by three other students, took place during the period of social isolation and took place virtually, from the contact of the curators with the artworks until the launch of the online catalogue. In this sense, it also presents the process of choosing an existing platform, and the subsequent planning of the interface of this exhibition on Instagram, composing the exhibition design, in addition to possible reflections on virtual curation experience. The texts of the publication Escritos de artistas: anos 60/70, gathered and organized by Glória Ferreira and Cecilia Cotrim, and the work La Naissance d'Icare, by René Passeron, make up the theoretical framework that supports the exhibition still available on the application at the moment finalizing the writing of this article.
