Between pain and overcoming: adolescents with cancer debate their representation in the news

This article analyzes the appropriation processes of teenagers on the news about adolescents who are being treated against this disease in a non-profit institution, in Fortaleza, Brazil. The article is based on the theoretical framework of Cultural Studies and Latin American research and aims at to understanding how these teens evaluate their representations in the news and their place in this news production process. For that, two focus groups have been conducted. In those groups, eight participants revealed concerns on the victimization of patients and the desire that journalism presents more optimistic frameworks which value them as subjectsparticipants of the news on their own terms and conditions.
