The Impact of COVID-19 on family farming cooperatives in Goiás: an investigation based on Dynamic Capacities

This article aims to identify how family farming cooperatives in the state of Goiás sought to overcome the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis from the perspective of Dynamic Capabilities theory. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with four representatives of family farming cooperatives in Goiás between the months of June and July 2021. Using the content analysis technique, it was identified that, regarding the sensing capability, the interviewed cooperatives conducted informal market observations and engaged in conversations with other members to identify opportunities. Concerning the seizing capability, the interviewed cooperatives took actions such as developing new products, creating sales applications, establishing agreements/partnerships to expand sales, and adopting preventive measures against COVID-19. Lastly, in terms of the reconfiguring capability, actions such as developing new products, monitoring customer credit, and maintaining partnerships established during the pandemic context were identified.
