Abstract

By assuming their dual economic and social nature, cooperatives can be visualized in a hybrid way seeking a balance between the practices developed, so that they do not lose their principles. In parallel, the search for results that actually express the democratic aspirations of the cooperative members, drives its members to performance beyond the economic, orienting themselves to a critical performance. Thus, because we believe that there is a need for reinterpretations that investigate these organizations adequately, the objective of this theoretical essay is to analyze how the main aspects that characterize both organizational hybridism and critical performativity as theories can be used for the proper understanding of cooperative principles based on the practices developed by cooperatives. We believe that the discussions outlined here have the potential to generate numerous insights for new investigations since we have advanced in the discussion about forms of action and governance practices in cooperatives.
