Analysis of governance structure adopted by a community forest management cooperative

Abstract

This work aims to analyze the governance structure adopted by Community Forest Management Cooperative established in a Conservation Unit in the Amazon. The research used the analytical framework of the Comparative Discrete Structural Analysis and was conducted by conducting interviews with managers and technicians of the Mixed Cooperative of the Tapajós National Forest, in addition to the research in official documents and reports of the Organization. The results indicate that the predominant governance structure adopted by the Cooperative is the hybrid structure oscillating between the trust and relational network subtypes. The option for this type of governance structure is due to the advantages obtained with the possibility of flexibility in the contracts provided by the closer relationship with suppliers and customers, even if this, represents a greater exposure to opportunism. The analyzes present a contribution of how the Comparative Discrete Structural Analysis can be used in empirical researches for the study of governance structures.
