Introduction: Hospitalization is a factor that worsens the health of the elderly. The moment of hospital discharge is a watershed moment, in which elderly people who are discharged are more prone to adverse events. The use of technologies to promote safe hospital discharge for elderly patients can be positive. Objective: to evaluate the use of technologies (light, light-hard and hard) applied to elderly patients, during hospitalization or at hospital discharge. Methodology: This is an integrative review of the literature. The review was carried out in the Virtual Health Library (VHL), including the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE), Web of Science, Cochrane Library and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) databases. Articles including hospitalized patients aged 65 years or older that addressed technologies used for hospital discharge in clinical admissions were included. The exclusion criteria were: review articles, dissertations, theses, texts that did not address patients aged 65 years or over, did not address technologies used at hospital discharge and were related to surgical admissions. Results: 10 articles were included, most published in 2018. Communication at discharge and the establishment of protocols by a trained team, in addition to team training, were proposed by most articles. 70% list technologies at the time of discharge with the aim of evaluating communication/satisfaction/comprehension. Technologies related to post-discharge follow-up were listed in 30% of this scientific production, while 40% were analyzed to correlate the performance of technologies with possible cases of readmission or death. Conclusion: None of the mentioned articles used hard technology in promoting safe discharge. The articles did not present standardization, with different conduct in each service. There was evidence that interventions improved experiences at hospital discharge.
