COVID-19 en ancianos institucionalizados: repercusiones clínicas y factores de riesgo de muerte

Objetivo: identificar repercusiones clínicas y factores de riesgo de muerte en ancianos institucionalizados infectados por coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). Método: estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo y analítico, realizado con 201 ancianos en una Institución de Larga Estancia en el nordeste de Brasil. Se utilizó estadística descriptiva, Chi-cuadrado de Pearson, regresión logística y se adoptó p<0,05. Resultados: 134 (66,7%) fueron confirmados con COVID-19, el 44,8% presentó manifestaciones clínicas y la mortalidad fue del 6,0%. Las personas mayores dependientes tenían más probabilidades de morir. La diabetes, la enfermedad renal, la derivación al servicio hospitalario y el uso de oxigenoterapia se asociaron con mayor mortalidad. Las personas mayores con dislipidemia y diabetes tuvieron mayor gravedad de la enfermedad. En el modelo de regresión logística multivariado, las variables dependencia de cuidados y diabetes mellitus se mantuvieron como factores de riesgo para muerte por COVID-19. Conclusión: la dependencia funcional y las comorbilidades surgieron como indicadores críticos de resultados adversos, además, la dislipidemia y la diabetes se asociaron con mayor gravedad de la enfermedad.
