The role of the nurse in the care of puerperal women

Aim: to identify the role of the nurse in puerperal transition in hospital and community contexts. Method: descriptive exploratory study of qualitative approach, developed with nine nurses from the Family Health Strategies and from the São Vicente de Paulo Hospital’s maternity, which is located in Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Data collection was made from July to August 2014 through semi-structured interview. Their speeches were submitted to content analysis on thematic mode. Results: the results were discussed from the categories: the nursing care to the puerperal women and to the newborn at the hospital; extension of the care in the family health strategy; the home visit in puerperium; and the guidance given by the Nurse in the puerperium. Conclusion: Considering the importance of the actions developed by the nurse during the puerperal period, it is indispensable that those professionals take their performance space, so that such assistance becomes more qualifiedDownloads
