University sustainability in brazil and latin america: a comparative analysis of the UI greenmetric criteria using the entropy method

Objetivo – Este estudo tem como objetivo identificar quais categorias de indicadores do UI GreenMetric têm maior peso na diferenciação do desempenho de universidades brasileiras e latino-americanas, e analisar o que essas diferenças revelam sobre suas políticas e práticas de sustentabilidade.
Desenho/Metodologia/abordagem – Aplicou-se o método de entropia aos dados de 217 universidades da América Latina, incluindo 38 brasileiras. Essa técnica permitiu determinar pesos objetivos para cada critério com base na variabilidade das informações, minimizando vieses subjetivos dos pesquisadores na avaliação do ranking.
Resultados – A categoria Água (ODS 6), emergiu como a dimensão mais significativa na diferenciação regional. Enquanto as universidades brasileiras apresentam uma distribuição equilibrada entre os critérios, sugerindo maior maturidade institucional, as demais instituições latino-americanas exibem forte concentração em Água e Resíduos, revelando especificidades de infraestrutura do Sul Global frequentemente negligenciadas.
Contribuições/Originalidade – O estudo avança ao introduzir uma ponderação quantitativa transparente para rankings de sustentabilidade. As contribuições sugerem que os rankings devem ser utilizados como guias de diagnóstico para investimentos estratégicos, posicionando as universidades como atores fundamentais na transição para um futuro sustentável e na implementação da Agenda 2030.
